Kitzbühel – the absolute hotspot for cyclists

The grass-covered mountains outside Kitzbühel are like a second home to mountain bikers, while leisure bikers cruise comfortably along pleasant trails following rivers and streams.

From the Hahnenkamm to Pengelstein on a mountain bike

This impressive tour starts at the Hahnenkammbahn cable car valley station in the centre of Kitzbühel.
You can begin by taking it easy and riding on the Hahnenkammbahn with your bike up to the mountain, or you can accept the challenge right from the start and conquer the mountain not far from the world-famous Streif racing piste via the so called “Asten” with the power of your muscles alone.

You’ll be rewarded for your efforts with a breathtaking panoramic view from the top of the Hahnenkamm mountain.
The tour continues along a beautiful route that passes by no fewer than four mountain lakes as you head towards Pengelstein. On the way you can fully enjoy the fresh air and magical mountain experience as you ride along on your bike.

You should also take the time to enjoy a well-deserved meal – for example on the sun terrace of Pengelstein restaurant with its magnificent view of the Großglockner and Großvenediger mountains and all the way through to the Zillertal Alps. Directly in front of you you’ll see the “Große Rettenstein” mountain, which has the highest peak in the Kitzbühel district (2,366 metres).

The route on the way back down the mountain has numerous serpentine segments. You will ride along a stream and the Saukasergraben until you reach Jochberg. After that you will follow the official bike path through the valley (no cars!) via Aurach and back to Kitzbühel, having experienced an elevation gain of around 1,000 meters and sights that will remain with you forever.

Hit the saddle!

If you’re looking for a holiday filled with sport, are passionate about mountain biking and would like to stand on the top of a mountain, then you definitely need to experience a biking adventure in Kitzbühel.
When summer comes, mountain bikers take over the slopes that are dominated by skiers in winter. Here, challenging climbs, speedy downhill stretches and exciting trails get the adrenaline flowing.

Leisure bikers can also take things slow and easy on even trails and enjoy the fresh air and glorious countryside around Kitzbühel.

Mountain bikers aren’t the only ones who’ve long since discovered the fascination of Kitzbühel and its surroundings, as Kitzbühel also has a long racing bike tradition. For example, the Kitzbüheler Horn has Austria’s steepest cycling route, which happens to be a classic on the international cycling scene. You can also compare your performance with that of famous racers, as the route on the Kitzbüheler Horn offers free timekeeping for all amateur racing cyclists.
